From the South of Canada to the Middle of South America. Since four decades they belong to the central European animal world.
Habitat: o Mixed and deciduous forests that provide good and hard-to-reach hides. In accordance to the climate and nourishment, raccoon find in our zoo conditions similar to their habitat. They are evil nest- and poultry thieves. They climb and swim very well. They dive for food in the water and wash themselves. In natural surroundings they are loners and form pairs only in mating season, when males mate
with several females. They have excellently developed their sense of smell, touch and hearing. They have weak
sight. To defend them, they are very brave and cutting. Nourishment: o Nourishment: insects, nestlings and small birds, eggs, worms, snails, shells, fish, fruit, field crops, seeds and delicate slips. In human surroundings they nourish on vegetables and
animals.  BACK
