Lerning and playing on the glacier
Thanks to the new "Glacial Landscape" it is possible to learn and play throughout the year at the Zoo of Eberswalde. The landscape
illustratet the last ice age, meaning the glacial strech on land as it was approximately 15000 to 16000 years ago - and how it influenced the
settlement in the region. The focus of the exhibition lies on informing visitors about ecological issues, especially children and teenagers.
The "Zoo-School" provides many interesting offers in German and Polish. And the impressive Amur Tigers can be seen in a special habitat.
The "Zoo-School" has developed into a centre for education in ecological issues. Visitors can see a model of the past ice age. All elements
of a glacial series like glacial drift, frontal moraine, outwash plain and glacial valley were integrated into the landscape of the zoo. The
glacial playground is for the most part the glacier itself. In the Glacial tongues are "glacial rivers" - pipes, in which the children can play.
At the bottom is a "climate playground" where the children can explore the different climate zones on earth and learn about the climate
problems we face today. Observation platforms, slides, vlimbing bars and everything a playground needs is included in this playground.

Facts   The "Glacial Landscape" with the playgrounds and the habitat of
the Amur tigers is in the southern part of the Zoo of Eberswalde and
has a size of about 2 hectares. The enclosure of the tigers is about
1 hectare large and marked off by a ditch that is about 400 m long.

Included in the habitat is a pond. Safety glass allows the
visitors zo look into the pond and observe the animals there.

But obove the water-level the visitor gets a good view of the glacial
landscape and of course the tigers. The landscape is surrounded by
walkways and visitors can look into the enclosure from every angle.

The tiger house is built into the ditch and has a size of 137 mē.
Its ceiling is made of ferroconcrete. The concret floor is about
30 cm above the ditch. Several observation decks allow the visitors
to have a bette view into the enclosure - one of the decks has a
safety glass floor and is right above the tigers. The ditch has a depth
of 4 meters, it walls have a slope of 30 degrees. The walkway is
separated from the habitat not only by the ditch but
also by safetyglass that has a height of 1,10 m.  BACK
